Manjaro Log Helper (Python / GTK)

A Python + GTK rewrite of the original bash + yad tool manjaro-log-helper. It collects various system logs, optionally removes personal data, and can upload the result to the dpaste.com pastebin service.

Original idea by the BigLinux team.

The graphical interface is defined in a standard GtkBuilder XML file (ui/main.ui) so it can be designed and edited visually with Cambalache.

Features

  • Select which logs to collect (journalctl boots, Calamares installer log, systemd-analyze blame, lspci, lsusb, inxi, ...).
  • Commands that need root are run through pkexec.
  • Automatic removal of personal data (user names and hostname) before sharing.
  • Optional upload to dpaste.com (the URL is copied to the clipboard and opened in the browser).
  • GUI fully described in ui/main.ui — open it in Cambalache to customize.

Requirements

On Manjaro (or any Arch-based distro):

sudo pacman -S python-gobject gtk4

No extra Python package is needed at all: the upload to dpaste.com uses http.client from the standard library. Just install the GTK bindings above.

Usage

Run the application:

python3 main.py

Or make it executable and run it directly:

chmod +x main.py
./main.py

Or use the installed mlh command:

mlh

Editing the GUI with Cambalache

  1. Install Cambalache: sudo pacman -S cambalache (or flatpak install ...).
  2. Open ui/main.ui in Cambalache.
  3. Rearrange widgets, change labels, add new controls — the file stays a plain GtkBuilder XML.
  4. If you add new widgets that must trigger actions, give them a signal handler name (e.g. on_generate_clicked) and implement the matching method in mlh_gui.py.
