Manjaro Linux uses a dynamic mirror pool dataset provided in .json format.
See the repo https://gitlab.manjaro.org/web/manjaro-web-repo for details
The initial
mirrors.jsonfile is provided with the pacman-mirrors package and stored in/usr/share/pacman-mirrorsfolder.Due the the dynamic state of the Manjaro Linux mirror pool, the ´pacman-mirrors´ application will update this file when the file has changed.
A single user has suggested (using forum PM) to move the file to
/var/lib/pacman-mirrorsto fit into the user's practice of mounting/usr-tree as read-only.@all

I am not entirely against it - but the current approach was decided a long time ago and has worked without issues since.
The logic behind the original choice is to avoid frequent rebuilds of the
pacman-mirrorspackage while at the same time keep the system's mirror pool up-to-date.The chosen compromise ensured the current state of the Manjaro Linux mirror pool is reflected correct to any and all system's with internet access.
