Over the years there has been a lot of topics on samba and how to find network shares.

I have always been saying that one should target the service directly.

By coincidence I discovered that - besides the other helpers like gvfs and the subpackages - an enabled avahi-daemon would make network devices visible to the network browsing facility of most file managers.

I have been experimenting with it - and since avahi is a dependency of NetworkManager it is already present on all ISO - since they all use NetworkManager.

Since the xfce profile enables avahi and both i3 and cinnamon does as well - I am thinking that enabling for those last two profiles would be a sensible choice.

I was speculating what you meant - I see that my profiles my be slightly out of sync

I don't understand - I forked the iso profiles repo - then created the MR from that fork?

That is a good point. We should have consistency in that regard.
